Music: Week of December 19th-23rd
I hope that everyone had a wonderful week. Music is always on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Congratulations students! Thank you to everyone that volunteered at the Winter Concert.
I would like to reach out and see if anyone has a copy of the winter concert that they can share please email cassieb@branchlineschool.org. I need to censor the video before sharing it with the public. Thank you so much for attending.
Younger Grades:
In Kindergarten, students are working on identifying opposites of high and low. We sang S-A-N-T-A and Comin' Down the Chimney. We learned about Hanukkah and sang One Little Candle and the story of The Nutcracker. When we come back we will be doing Peter and the Wolf unit.
1st-2nd Grade, students are working organizing unpitched instruments according to what they are made of in 1st grade and 2nd grade is organizing according to their function hitting a membrane or shaking/scraping the percussion instrument.
Older grades:
In 3rd and 4th grade, students are studying the composer Handel (which made works publicly while Bach made music for the church). We are learning about oratorios and his work The Messiah while focusing on Social Emotional Learning and how a community can help with bullying without fighting using the movie Handel's Last Chance.
In 5th-6th grade, we are working I-IV-V chords. Students reviewed note names and created chords for the first time using Christmas Shopping. Chords are made by "making snowmen" out of three noteheads. They will also be learning about Handel when they return.
In 7th-8th grade, we are continuing working on time periods/genres of music. We are working on 1940s-1950s, students are watching White Christmas to learn about the effects World War II and swing had on Christmas music. Some of the best Christmas music came from this time period. Also, students see example of Igor Stravinsky's Rite of Spring influencing dance in White Christmas.
If your child did not attend that day they will need to sing the concert selections for me to obtain a grade for the concert.
I highly recommend students take advantage of our musicplayonline.com subscription. The student code is c211732.
