Our new author for the next few weeks is Gail Gibbons. She is a non-fiction author who illustrates her work. This week we focused on one book because they are so full of information it takes a while to digest it. Ladybugs was the subject this week. Ask your child what they remember about ladybugs. How many wings? What are their 3 defenses against predators? How do they help farmers?
In science we started a new unit on force and motion. I asked the class what they knew about those two terms. We'll keep their prior knowledge in a list and then circle back as we learn more. We'll talk about misconceptions and facts. Right now about half the class thinks the word force has something to do with Star Wars, so we'll make sure we address the scientific terms later.
NWEA MAP testing was completed this week. Ms. Amy and I are also doing another round of ELA and math assessments. We did a lot of question asking this week. We'll get back to our regular schedule next week.
Boot Tray: I have some boot trays in the hallway that will stay out all winter. If we ever get snow, the children are able to keep their boots at school on the boot trays if you wish. Rain boots can stay there too as long as they go. home on weekends.
Things to talk about from the week:
- Yoga in gym
- Junie B. and scissors
- Baby ladybugs
- Counting in Spanish
