Music - 1/27/23

Music: Week of January 23rd-27th

I hope that everyone had a wonderful week. Music is always on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We only had music this Tuesday due to a snow day and power outage.

Younger Grades:

In Kindergarten, students are learning about melodies going higher or lower and focusing on Sol-Mi-Do for solfege. Students played Do-Re-Mi on boomwhackers.  Students are also working on maintaining steady beat.

1st-2nd Grade, we reviewed meter with "Did you ever see a Lassie?" which was a dance in the meter of 2, so it would be in 2/4. Here is the song, ask your child to teach you the dance.

In 3rd and 4th grade, we were working on Sakura and creating a dance using different rhythms in 4/4. Students were also solving note names to prepare for recorders.

Students are starting the recorder unit. We are reviewing theory and learning Sakura this week. This week was note name review. Students will need to have their recorders by January 30th in a plastic bag with their names in sharpie. If you need to purchase a recorder Cameron's Music very nearby and supply recorders.

I also have a website you can purchase the recorder for under $4.

In 5th-6th grade, we are working I-IV-V chords and reviewing note names. Students learned about how ragtime became jazz.

In 7th-8th grade, we are working on a musical called "Razzamajazz" Students are assigned various famous jazz artists from 1920s-1940s. They are reading from a script, doing choreography, and singing a short three song musical. This is available on musicplayonline and their roles posted on Google Classroom.

If your child did not attend that day they will need to sing the concert selections for me to obtain a grade for the concert.

I highly recommend students take advantage of our musicplayonline.com subscription. The student code is c211732.

Band Schedule:
There will be a new band calendar for the second half of the school year. I will be posting the calendar next week.
