Music - 2/10/23

Music: Week of February 6th-10th

I hope that everyone had a wonderful week. Music is always on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Younger Grades:

In Kindergarten, students were working on louds and softs as well as identifying rhythm and beats. Students were creating movements to show steady beat to Kangaroo Skippity Doo. Students were playing singing games with my help.

1st-2nd Grade, students were identifying various meters by strong and weak beats. We were creating movements to The More We Get Together and also identifying the various percussion family instruments. We finished our Peter and the Wolf unit.

In 3rd and 4th grade, we were working on how to take care of recorders, history of recorders. Students are working on covering the holes on the recorders. The first song they are learning is Hot Cross Buns which they can earn their first belt, the white belt. Students are moving on to the next song Gently Sleeping or finishing their white belt.

If you would like your child to wear a mask while playing you can purchase this mask or make a similar mask for your child.

In 5th-6th grade, students read note names and played the song Scooby De Doo on boom whackers with independent parts. 6th graders are working on dotted sixteenth note rhythms in Scooby De Doo before we move on to learning about Duke Ellington.

In 7th-8th grade, we are working on a musical called "Razzamajazz" Students are assigned various famous jazz artists from 1920s-1940s. They are reading from a script, doing choreography, and singing a short three song musical. This is available on musicplayonline and their roles posted on Google Classroom.

If your child did not attend that day they will need to sing the concert selections for me to obtain a grade for the concert.

I highly recommend students take advantage of our musicplayonline.com subscription. The student code is c211732.
