Magazine Request

We are on the lookout for magazines to use with the Explorers for several projects. If you have any, we would love you to share them with us. We can use both magazines for kids (Highlights, Ranger Rick, National Geographic etc) and those for adults (cooking, decorating, crafting etc).

Peek at our Week

ELA

We are learning to become poets! According to Poet.org, National Poetry Month is the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, K–12 teachers, librarians, booksellers, literary events curators, publishers, bloggers, and—of course—poets marking poetry’s important place in our culture and our lives every April.

Inspired by the successful celebrations of Black History Month (February) and Women's History Month (March), the Academy of American Poets established National Poetry Month in 1996. Along the way the organization enlisted a variety of government

agencies and officials, educational leaders, publishers, sponsors, poets, and arts organizations to help.

Science

First graders are sorting rocks. They are also learning about natural resources.

Second graders are finding ways to slow down soil erosion.

Math

Our first grade level mathematicians continue to learn new strategies when subtracting including using story problems, counters and counting back.

Our second grade mathematicians are working very hard on double digit subtraction with regrouping.  We are using our dry erase boards to explain our thinking as we work through these tricky problems.

Our third grade level mathematicians are learning different ways to multiply using arrays, story problems and drawing a picture to solve.  We love explaining our thinking when problem solving as well as finding the best strategy to solve a particular problem.

Social Studies

Our first graders are enjoying continuing their work on map skills.  They love working on listening to directions and using those directions to find different areas on a map.  Their compass rose skills are quickly developing.

Our second graders are working on how we negatively and positively change our environment through new developments and what the consequences of these changes may be.  When we build a new housing development, how does this positively or negatively change our environment?
