Investigators 5/5/2023

**This coming week, on Thursday 5/11/23, is our Salmon release field trip! We will be leaving the school and traveling by bus to Huroc Park in Flat Rock. Chaperones need to be in the Hub by 9:15 pm. As long as the weather cooperates, we will be eating lunch at the park. Please send your student with a disposible packed lunch. If rain is predicted, please send students with umbrellas, rain coats, and boots. After the trip the buses will be dropping us at off at Han-di-dip Dairy Barn for ice cream and we will be walking back to school. Students will need to bring $4-6 to purchase their ice cream.**

Next week we will have 2 field trips. The first is the Howell Nature Center which will take place at school on Wednesday. The second is our salmon release field trip which will take place on Thursday. 

If you have planned to chaperone, please make sure you have a background check on file with Ms. Cindy.

In Social Studies we have been working on explaining how the principles of popular sovereignty, rule of law, checks and balances, separation of powers, and individual rights (e.g., freedom of religion, freedom of expression, freedom of press) serve to limit the powers of the federal government as reflected in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Give examples of ways the Constitution limits the powers of the federal government (e.g., election of public officers, separation of powers, checks and balances, Bill of Rights).

This week in ELA we met with the teacher one on one to review our NWEA goals and check in on our progress so far this year. We will be taking our final  NWEA reading test on Monday. Please make sure you students get a good night's rest and have eaten a good breakfast before school. We started a new spelling unit this week and will complete this list next week. We have now completed our folktales unit and will start a poetry unit next week.  Standards covered: RL.3.1-10, RI.3.1-10, RF.3.3-4, RL.4.1-10, RI.4.1-10, RF.4.3-4,  L.3.2, L.3.4, L.3.5, L.3.6, L.4.2, L.4.4, L.4.4, L.4.6 In Science this week we continued with our earth systems unit. We reviewed the differences in physical and chemical weathering. We also learn about the three types of rocks (sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic) We used this to learn how the rock cycle works and how new rocks are continually made.  Standards covered: 4-ESS1-1, 4-ESS2-1, 4-ESS2-2 -Ms. Jamie --
