Hello Explorer Families!
The children have been mentioning being very tired lately. The children work so hard at school, please try to ensure they are receiving enough sleep to fuel them through the day.
A peek at our week:
ELA - The children have been working hard in their daily 5 centers. We have begun to meet in small groups so that each student is reading a “just right book.” Encourage your child to read aloud to you every night. Remember to continue to read aloud to your child everyday also.
Last week we began a trilogy of books by Peter Renolds. We read The Dot. This week we read Ish and Sky Color. Ask your child about them!
Science- We are continuing our matter study; this week we are learning about the properties of matter. We observed several objects and applied the properties to each object.
Math -
First grade level mathematicians continue their work with writing addition equations using provided information.
Second grade math level students are learning about place value using place value blocks and cubes.
Third grade level students continue their work with rounding numbers to the nearest ten and the nearest 100. We played a dice game to review: roll 2 or 3 numbers cubes and round that number to the nearest ten or hundred.
Social Studies -
First grade students continue to talk about how families support each other by taking care of one another in many ways.
Second graders are working on “building” a community by discussing and planning what types of buildings, natural resources, businesses and kinds of transportation we think form the best community.
Second graders explored science tools this week.
