Investigators - 9/23/22

 Hello All,

This week in Math we worked on completing a few math worksheets, worked in their new Go Math Workbooks, went over important math vocabulary and played math games together at my table in their small groups. Students continued working on their first Mental Math booklet called “Back to School” that they will work on during Math Rotations. Students are continuing to work on their IXL recommendations that are in our Technology Math Rotation and next week we will begin the Think Central/Go Math assignments on technology.

The standards that were used were: 3.OA.D.9, 3.NBT.A.1 4.OA.A.3,  4.OA.C.5, 4.NBT.A.1, 4.NBT.A.2

In Social Studies we have been working on being able to Identify questions economists ask in examining the United States (e.g., What is produced? How is it produced? How much is produced? Who gets what is produced? What role does the government play in the economy?)

Identify questions political scientists ask in examining the United States (e.g. What does the government do? What are the basic values and principles of American democracy? What is the relationship of the United States to other nations? What are the roles of the citizens in American democracy?

The standards that were used were: 4.G1.0.1, 4.E1.0.1, 4.C1.0.1

Thank you,

In ELA this week, we have gotten into our routine of reading groups and independent daily five centers. The students are doing better at time management and knowing how to plan their weeks to get all of their activities done. They started their first spelling units this week. Each unit goes for 2 weeks. We do not do formal spelling tests in class. Instead, we use a program called Vocabulary A-Z that gives them many games and activities to practice their words. After 2 weeks of practice they take a quick check on the same website. If they seem to have a good understanding of how to spell their words they move on to the next list. If they still need more time with the list they have, they will get new games and activities to practice a little longer. This way we make sure the students are mastering words at their own pace and level before moving forward.  Standards covered:RI.3.1, RI.4.1, RI.3.2, RI.4.2, W.3.10, W.4.10, L.3.2, L.3.2 In science this week we have started our first project of the year, Bats! We will be learning all about the bat species and how important they are to our environment. We will be studying the problems they are facing and why some bat species are endangered.   Standards covered: W.3.7, W.4.7, SL.3.3, SL.4.3, 3-LS2-1, 3-LS4-3 -Ms. Jamie
