Our nursery rhymes finished up this week! Next week we will review them and read some new ones casually before we start on fables. Our nursery rhymes led us to an investigation on sheep, how their shepherds call them, and what happens if a sheep isn't sheared in a long time. Can you figure out which nursery rhymes we talked about?
We started our science unit on what it takes to be a scientist. This week I got the children's initial thoughts by asking them what they think a scientist does. Soon we will work with various tools and start exploring the world around us more.
In social studies we talked about laws. There are certain rules that people all around us need to follow. If a law is broken, there is a consequence. We talked about some popular laws, and don't worry, I'll keep those parents who have speeding tickets a secret. We reallllly like to share stories at meeting times!
We did have a lockdown drill on Thursday. I introduced the topic to the children about if there was a possible danger in the halls we would need to stay away from. Per usual, the children started thinking of animals. We came up with a fox or a wolf. An elephant or lion isn't very likely. We went to the corner of the room and pretended we weren't there. I do make reference to any kind of danger, human or animal, but will try to make it as stress-free as possible.
Here are a few things to talk about from the week:
- Humpty Dumpty, Baa baa black sheep, Little boy blue, and Little Bo Peep
- Making fingerprints with pencils
- Drawing our families
- Fancy scissors and the scissor contract
