Our nursery rhymes have finished, so we're moving on to fables! A fable is a story from a long time ago. It has animals as characters and always teaches a lesson. The fables we learn take a few days to discuss as we first hear the story, act it out, discuss, and then compare other versions. With the stories being so old, there are concepts we might not be as familiar with and there are plenty of versions floating around. The fable we started with was the Lion and the Mouse. We discussed words like disturbed, scampered, and ferocious. The lesson we learned is that even small creatures or people can do great things.
On Fridays we are going to try introducing computer skills as a center. Every year the students do a state-wide test. You can imagine that as kindergartners, we run into a challenge of just trying to figure out how to work the mouse and click and drag. To help not get so frustrated, practice would be a good idea! On Fridays the children have an added computer choice. They can play from a variety of games that use various mouse or trackpad skills. This Friday we just focused on the trackpad. I'll introduce the mouse soon!
Things to talk about from the week:
- A surprise fire drill!
- Going on a walk around the school
- Ms. Sarah's video about making good choices (and toys from her house!)
- All of the absent friends!
