Music: Week of September 5th-9th.
I hope that everyone had a wonderful week. We had so much fun with music and various instruments.
Younger Grades:In Kindergarten, we are working on keeping a steady beat and using our singing voices. Students have moved on to singing the alphabet.
Students were identifying opposites and identified the opposite of talking as singing as well as shouting to whispering it. We experimented with creating loud sounds and soft sounds with rhythm sticks using the song Rain, Rain Go Away.

In 1st-2nd grade, we are working rhythms Ta and TiTi as well as using our singing voices without a teacher's guidance in small patterns. Students were creating their own lyrics while singing in a large group. Students had to identifying jogging TiTi TiTi vs. galloping TaTi TaTi to various pieces.
Older grades:
In 3rd and 4th grade, student took their 3rd-4th grade Music Pre-Test for the school year. Student were creating music on Chrome Music Lab when they were finished. We are continuing our patriotic music unit.
In 5th-6th grade, we are going over the instruments of Africa. Students have learned that the world's oldest instruments came from Africa, even bone flutes when continents were connected. Some instruments we have discussed are the kora, ngongo, engongo, nyatiti, udu, algaita (which I brought in), kalimba, and balafon. Our goal is to learn the difference between chordophones, aerophones, idiophones, and membranophones. Students have taken their Music Pre-Test this week for 5th-6th grade.
I have a kalimba that students will be introduced to. If anyone has a kalimba or guiro, this class could use it.
In 7th-8th grade, we are working on time periods/genres of music. Students are finishing up their 1900-1910s this week. We will be moving on 1920s next week and taking our Music Pre-Test for 7th-8th grade.
