Junior Explorers - 9/9/22

Has your child talked about the small group they are in?  Ask them what color they are!  I meet with 6 groups of children twice each day.  This week in the morning we played Zingo, wrote in our journals, and played phonics or letter activities.  Each group works on different skills.  The afternoon we have started our online IXL activities, and worked in either math books or numeral writing activities.

Please remember to bring a water bottle if you can.  The children refill them during the day and it is pretty hot!  We do have a drinking fountain, but sometimes I am unable to walk a child down when they are thirsty.

Next week we will do two rounds of testing.  State testing is a requirement in a public school.  Testing happens at a computer.  The children will be asked math and reading-type questions and they will choose their best guesses.  I will go over the results at the first round of parent-teacher conferences in November.

Things to talk about from the week:

  • What we did when the power went out!
  • Jack and Jill (vocab word: fetch)
  • Little Miss Muffett (vocab word: frighten)
  • This Little Piggie (concept of make believe and real-life)
  • Matchbox car donation from Ms. Melanie
  • How to say "stop" and "bathroom" in sign language
