Dear Innovator Families,
The Mackinac Trip is a GO! Permission slips and a $50 deposit is due OCTOBER 28. Chocolate bars are still available to sell!
In ELA, we have overlapped the last week of national Hispanic Heritage Month with the beginning of our new novel, The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. To prepare for Cisneros' largely autobiographical story, we have studied Chicano art from the Smithsonian and taken a deeper look at vignettes as a literary device.
In Science, we calculated calories and the change in temperature with our new algebra skills.
Our Innovators crafted the Trunk or Treat pumpkins all on their own! They are happy to present, Freddie, Jason and Pickle Rick!
In Socials Studies, we shared information students had collected about famous Hispanic Americans in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month which runs from Sept. 15th - Oct. 15th. Ask your Innovator why this celebration of Hispanic heritage begins Sept. 15th rather than at the start of September.
We also finished summarizing the wide array of creation theories and stories students have researched and presented. In addition, we revisited calendars from around the world and throughout history and compared how people through the ages have come up with a variety of ways to talk about and record events and time. When we return from the October break, we will explore the geologic time scale, early hominids, and the first civilizations with a special guest appearance from Charles Darwin and his many finches!
Feel free to contact us via email, text, or call.
