Junior Explorers - 10/7/22

The fable we discussed this week was about a dog and his reflection.  This one isn't as well known.  It's about a greedy dog who tried to take a bone away from his reflection in the water, which led to the bone being washed away.  We talked about how being greedy is a problem.  After lots of discussion about half the class thinks the dog learned his lesson while the other half thinks he didn't and will still be greedy.  I started to discuss the fable of the tortoise and the hare, but we'll get into it next week.

I also started a chapter book about a character named Junie B. Jones.  She's a kindergartner who makes a lot of interesting choices.  It always gives us a chance to talk about appropriate behavior and laugh about all of her mischief.  Maybe she'll learn one day!

We continued our science tool exploration with magnifying glasses and tweezers.  The children helped search for seeds for future planting endeavors.  Next week I'll bring out some magnets.

As the weather gets colder, this is a good chance to work on those independence skills.  Is your child able to put a coat on themselves?  Can they get the sleeves when they're inside out?  How about snowpants?  The snow is coming!  I am always available to help get the children dressed for the weather, but with 18 children all needing help at the same time, it will take up a lot of our recess time.  Labeling clothes is also a great idea.  Our lost and found is getting bigger every day!

Things to talk about from the week:

  • Numberblocks
  • Dollhouse
  • Plants that eat animals!
  • Trees that grow around fences signs, and even cars!
  • Listening to music in writing space
Sorry, no pictures this week (I'm terrible at remembering) but I will try to have double next week!
