Hello Innovator Families!
In ELA we created "found poems" from the vignettes of The House on Mango Street. Next week we will continue our reflection of this important work of fiction.
In Science we began our Waves unit. Students compared mechanical waves (sound) with electromagnetic waves (light). They created a laser maze to bounce light (reflect) back to their starting points.
The weather has turned! Just a reminder that we enjoy the outdoors in all temperatures, so please send students with the right gear.
We loved seeing so many of you at conferences today! Remember, you never have to wait for an appt...
In Social Studies, we have been learning about the history and meaning of Veterans Day. We then created Agamographs, a style of 3-dimensional artwork inspired by Israeli artist Yaacov Agam. Our artwork celebrates and honors those who risked their lives to protect ours. Here is a video link to this artistic tribute:
We have also concluded our discussion of Charles Darwin's theories of evolution, natural selection, and survival of the fittest. Students have especially enjoyed exploring the plant and animal life of the Galapagos Islands which contributed significantly to the development of Darwin's theories. Here is the bulletin board we created using watercolor paintings to depict images from Darwin's discoveries there in the 1830s:
Next week, we will exchange the Hominid Trading Cards and the Hominid Coloring Book pages each student created based upon the hominid they each researched. Over these past few weeks. In addition, we will begin discussing how anthropologists define "civilization" and whether or not we agree with this definition.
Feel free to contact us via email, text, or call.
