Music - 1/13/23

Music: Week of January 9th-13th

I hope that everyone had a wonderful week. Music is always on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Best of luck on NWEA testing this month students.

Congratulations students! Thank you to everyone that volunteered at the Winter Concert.
I would like to reach out and see if anyone has a copy of the winter concert that they can share please email cassieb@branchlineschool.org. I need to censor the video before sharing it with the public. Thank you so much for attending.

Younger Grades:

In Kindergarten, students are learning about melodies going higher or lower and focusing on Sol-Mi-Do for solfege. Students are also working on maintaining steady beat.

1st-2nd Grade, students are working on Peter and the Wolf unit (censored/altered to be appropriate). This week students were introduced to the flute as the bird and the oboe as the duck. Student had to identify whether the instrument was playing low, medium, or high; slow, medium, or fast; and whether the music was playing detached (staccato) or smooth (slur).

Older grades:

In 3rd and 4th grade, students are starting the recorder unit. This week was note name review. Students will need to have their recorders by January 30th in a plastic bag with their names in sharpie. If you need to purchase a recorder Cameron's Music very nearby and supply recorders.

I also have a website you can purchase the recorder for under $4.

In 5th-6th grade, we are working I-IV-V chords and reviewing note names. Students learned about the different between jazz band, big band, and bebop.

In 7th-8th grade, we are continuing working on time periods/genres of music. We finished White Christmas this week. Students have a study guide about music in1940s-1950s. We had discussions about what the video was protesting and students will be finding a protest song of their choice about an appropriate topic of their choice.

If your child did not attend that day they will need to sing the concert selections for me to obtain a grade for the concert.

I highly recommend students take advantage of our musicplayonline.com subscription. The student code is c211732.

Band Schedule:
There will be a new band calendar for the second half of the school year. I will be posting the calendar next week.

Here are photos from the band party for families to enjoy. Students decorating their instruments for an instrument fashion show! The winner of the fashion show was Kate.
