I hope that everyone had a wonderful week. Music is always on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We only had music this Tuesday due to a snow day and power outage.
Younger Grades:
In Kindergarten, students were working on the different between steady beat and rhythm. Students were singing in small groups "Ground Hog" and we learned about Ground Hog's Day. Students kept a steady beat Musical Priest. Student were identifying various unpitched percussion.
1st-2nd Grade, students were analyzing the form of Love Grows Under the Wild Oak Tree. Students learned a stick game Gitsigakomim that originated from the Blackfoot Nation in Alberta, Canada.
In 3rd and 4th grade, we were working on how to take care of recorders, history of recorders. Students are working on covering the holes on the recorders. The first song they are learning is Hot Cross Buns which they can earn their first belt, the white belt.

In 5th-6th grade, students learned about Dixieland Jazz and how that came from Ragtime. Students will be doing a cake walk next week to demonstrate how Dixieland Jazz is still used today. Students read note names and played the song Scooby De Doo on boom whackers with independent parts.
In 7th-8th grade, we are working on a musical called "Razzamajazz" Students are assigned various famous jazz artists from 1920s-1940s. They are reading from a script, doing choreography, and singing a short three song musical. This is available on musicplayonline and their roles posted on Google Classroom.
If your child did not attend that day they will need to sing the concert selections for me to obtain a grade for the concert.
I highly recommend students take advantage of our musicplayonline.com subscription. The student code is c211732.
