Junior Explorers 3/3/23

Guest readers!  March is Reading Month and we're looking for guest readers.  All you need is a book and to make sure your criminal background is turned in to Ms. Cindy.  You just need to fill out a form and give the office a copy of your ID.  I made the time slots for the end of the day because I thought it would be easier for you to just come a bit earlier to go home, but if you are hoping for a different time of day, we can make it happen too!  Sign up below:

This week I started a little unit on similar stories from around the world.  I started off with the retelling of Cinderella, then The Girl with the Red Slippers, and finished with Billy Beg.  We talked about vocabulary words like worthy, servant, cinders, monstrous, and defeat.  We compared the stories and found that all three stories had a character that lost a shoe while running away.  The characters were later identified by a perfect fit.  Currently we're working on designing and decorating a shoe that is a perfect fit to write about it later.

Hopefully this week your child took home a collection of their work on the past.  Each page is a summary of the lessons I have been teaching each week.  Next week I plan on starting timelines.

Things to talk about from the week:

  • Colors in spanish
  • Friction- sliding on floors and rubbing hands together
  • Gravity and a stomp rocket
  • Junie B and the toilet sponge
