Music - 2/17/23

 

Music: Week of February 13th-17th


I  hope that everyone had a wonderful week. Music is always on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Younger Grades:

In Kindergarten, students were working on louds and softs as well as identifying rhythm and beats. Students were creating organizing sounds by rhythm for Kangroo Skipptiy Roo. Students listened to the Kangaroo from Saint-Saens Carnival of Animals.

1st-2nd Grade, students were identifying various meters by strong and weak beats. We were creating movements to Haul Away Joe and learning about sea shanties and how they were used. There are three types of shanties short haul, short drag, and capstan shanties.

In 3rd and 4th grade, we were working on how to take care of recorders, history of recorders. Students are working on covering the holes on the recorders. Students are moving on to the next song Gently Sleeping or finishing their white belt.

In 5th-6th grade, students read note names and played the song Scooby De Doo on boom whackers with independent parts. 6th graders are working on dotted sixteenth note rhythms in Scooby De Doo. We are working on the second part of this ternary form song (3 part).

In 7th-8th grade, students are working on the 1950s in music. The creation of rock n' roll, rhythm & blues, country, pop, and doo wop. Students learned about sock hops.

Band:

Congratulations to Eden Sutphin and Rachel Sharer for their admission to Middle School Honors Band sponsored by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. They will be out on March 8th for all day rehearsals.
