Hello Explorer Families!
ELA
We pulled out several of our favorite activities:
Games such as Spelagator, PDQ (pretty darn quick word game), mystery word, Splat, Pop
Reader’s Theatre plays
Guess in 10
Writing Riddles for classmates
Ask your child what his or her favorite activity is.
Fairy Tales
We are reading a variety of fairy tales and fractured fairy tales. A fairy tale is a short story that includes magical creatures, people, and places. A fractured fairy tale is a story inspired or based upon a traditional fairy tale that has been reimagined and altered to include different perspectives, unexpected endings or new settings. We will be incorporating some fun building challenges as well as comparing/contrasting stories.
Math
Our first grade level mathematicians continued their work showing how addition and subtraction are related. They worked on story problems, discussing what information was needed to problem solve before writing their number sentence making sure to use the correct symbol of operation.
Our second grade level mathematicians reviewed regrouping when subtracting and continued our geometry work identifying shapes as well as what we can make when we place different shapes together.
Our third grade level mathematicians began their work with division, learning how to place objects in equal groups and writing the corresponding number sentence.
Meeting Mushu
Miss Amber shared her bearded dragon with the Explorers. They fell in love.
