This week in ELA we were able to jump into our spelling program and take our first spelling assessment. This assessment helps Ms. Jamie to know what type of words I need to be working on. All students are given a personal list that is at their most needed level. This first week we were given an easy list to help us get to know the spelling program we use, Vocabulary A-Z. Next week we will be getting our first list that is set up for us! :) We finished our read aloud of "The BFG" by Ronld Dahl. We will be watching this movie this Thursday. Please make sure you have sent in the permission slip! Each week in ELA we do a daily five system where we have 2 centers each day to get our "must dos" done. All "must dos" are due at the end of the week. During this center time we are also pulled to our small reading groups for our lessons.
In Science this week, we wrapped up our earth science unit on weathering and erosion. We did a fun activity where we had to pretend to be engineers and help solve a problem. We made a plan to save a house that is in an area with many landslides. Ask me what my plan was like! :)

In Math we are getting ready to wrap up our first unit. In this unit we learned about Place value, addition and subtraction within 1000/1.000.000. The 4th graders will bring the study guide home on Tuesday/Wednesday. Our 3rd graders have a couple of lessons left, so they will get the study guide a week later. Please check your child’s backpack. I sent home to some kids with their unfinished classwork, with this message attached: I'm sending home these math pages that your child was unable to finish in class. We had 5 make-up days to finish missed work. Next week we are finishing our unit, without finishing these pages, your child might have a lower score on the upcoming test. Please send them back on Monday.
In Social Studies we finished our unit about Michigan. The kids learned so much about Michigan’s resources, regions, human and natural characteristics, I was so happy to hear them sharing their experiences and knowledge. We will start our next unit, Economics in Michigan.
