Explorers - 9/1/22

Hello Explorer Families!

The children did an amazing job completing their third week of school.

Language Arts-We discussed two questions: What are emotions? How do people show emotions? We also described the characters and the setting of the story. Ask your child about his or her scribble drawing done with a partner.

Writing- Please ask your child about using craftsmanship while working on an illustration.  Students are learning about Writer’s Workshop. We have a mini lesson, writing time, and an opportunity for students to share their work.

Math - We have been exploring the math manipulatives we have in our classroom such as pattern blocks, interlocking cubes, connecting beads and contraptions.  We use these math manipulative tubs to allow our students to visualize math problems, solve math in a different way and work with logic reasoning and spatial skills.

Social Studies - We have shared and discussed a variety of books which talk about expressing our feelings and emotions as well as celebrating the fact that we are all different in many wonderful ways.  These stories help us to regulate our emotions in healthy ways and build community in our school.

We have also begun assessing our students so that we can begin to form learning groups for math and reading.

As a cohort, we have been learning about bees. Ask your student how a bee makes honey and why bees are important.  We are excited that our “hive” loves learning new things and sharing those facts with others.

A few reminders for next week:

  • Children can bring 2 snacks to school everyday; one for the morning and one for the afternoon.  Snacks should be a raw, fresh fruit or vegetable that students can eat without utensils or a dip. They should also bring a water bottle each day. Water ONLY please.

  • Please make sure to send in personal headphones for your student. One of our Daily Five centers will require headphone use each week.
