We look forward to celebrating your child with you.
Cold Weather Gear
Please label all of your child’s belongings. This will make it easier for us to return items to your child.
A Peek at our Week
Language Arts
We have read several nonfiction stories about Día de Los Muertos. Ask your child to tell you how this celebration is different from Halloween.
Please continue to read with your child each night. Reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills.
Science
We have completed several hands on activities. First, we read Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. We used the design process to build a new and improved Lego broom for the witch and her passengers. Next, we used some leftover candy corn to determine which liquid dissolves candy corn the fastest. We also talked about catapults and designed our own mini catapults.
Math
First grade level Explorers are diving into the concept of subtraction using picture cues to solve, learning how to cross off and solve and using word clues to complete a problem.
Second grade level mathematicians are continuing their work making place value models to determine how many groups of ten it takes to make a group of one hundred and adding on additional tens to form a 3 digit number.
Third grade level students continue to strengthen their skills when rounding 2 and 3 digit numbers, sometimes even problem solving on the board and explaining their thinking to the group.
Social Studies
First grade students discussed the difference between wants and needs using real life examples such as things we use in our daily lives such as water bottles and toys.
Second graders reviewed our ideas about what rules are necessary at school, home and within our community to keep people safe using safety scenarios to provide information to use for our lively discussions.
