Music: Week of October 31st-November 4th
I hope that everyone had a wonderful week. Music is always on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We had a wonderful time with Halloween in the various classrooms. I worked with several classes during the day.
We have Parent Teacher Conferences on November 18th, 2022 between 9:00am-5:00pm.

In Kindergarten, students are working on steady beat with Gavotte by J.S Bach. We played a digital quiet and loud game. The songs we worked on for identifying quiet and loud with Grumpy Grizzly, Tommy Thumb, and Can't Wait to Hibernate.
In 1st-2nd grade, we are working on Old Duke of York which focuses on Sol-Mi. Students reviewed tempos, but added two new terms if they were in 2nd grade (Moderato-medium fast) and Presto (very fast) to add to our collection of Adagio (slow), Andante (walking speed), Allegro (fast), Vivace (very fast).
We made a word rhythm using planet, moon, star, and sun. Then we sang Star Light to review Sol-Mi.
Older grades:
In 3rd and 4th grade, students created a candy rondo by using the rhythms of different kinds of candy. Then they analyzed the dynamics of The Sorcerer's Apprentice. Both classes earned a class party! They are watching Fantasia 2000, and we identified features of Beethoven's 5th symphony and Pines of Rome.
3rd and 4th Graders will be working on recorders starting in January.
I recommend purchasing a transparent, clear recorder to help students see through the instrument if they are covering the hole with their fingers (it helps to eliminate extremely high pitch screech).

In 5th-6th grade, students made a Halloween poem and played the poem in a drum circle for dramatic effect. They also added dynamics to a poem to create tension. Student learned that a person that write poems for music is called a lyricist.
In 7th-8th grade, we are working on time periods/genres of music. Students need to catch up on missing work as we are moving on to the 1930s with Jazz with a focus on Frank Sinatra.
The 7th-8th will be building DIY ukulele kits for a STEM and music project in November.
