Music: Week of November 28th-December 1st

I hope that everyone had a wonderful week. Music is always on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Performance Announcement: We will have a Christmas Concert on December 16th at 2:00pm for K-2nd in the cafeteria, families are welcome to come and students can be signed out after the concert to leave early for the day. At 2:30pm 5th-6th grade and beginning band/advanced band will be performing as well.

This performance is mandatory. If your child cannot attend that day please email me or provide a doctor's note. I will provide an alternate performance assignment as a result.

Concert Attire

Please wear dress shoes if possible (nice shoes) and nice slacks without any holes. 

Polos or button-up shirts are recommended. 

Skirts must be knee length or longer and I recommend leggings underneath if possible.

Ugly Christmas sweaters are welcome as well as Santa hats or reindeer antlers. 

Nothing too jingly as this is a concert. 

Light up necklaces or noses are acceptable. 

Younger Grades:

In Kindergarten, students are working on identifying opposites of fast and slow (Adagio and Allegro). They are working on their Christmas concert music Jingly.

1st-2nd Grade, students are working on their concert piece Blitzen Boogie and Down By the Bay. Students created new lyrics to Down By the Bay.

Older grades:

In 3rd and 4th grade, students are studying harmony with their concert piece Snow. The music is available on Google Classroom for students to practice under Investigators. They were working 16th notes this week and singing in harmony.

In 5th-6th grade, we are working on our African unit and learning a piece called Siyahamba for the Christmas concert. Students were learning how Nigeria celebrates Christmas and singing in harmony with syncopated rhythms.

In 7th-8th grade, we are working on time periods/genres of music. Students learned about the difference between swing and jazz as well as its similarities. They identified important composers from the swing genre such as Cole Porter, Glenn Miller, and Duke Ellington.

Band will be inside Jenn's room, she is the 5th and 6th grade teacher.
We are using Essential Elements Book 1 this year.

Students are memorizing memorizing Eb major and moving on in their books after the concert.
