Our service project us officially under way! You might have heard your children talk about a tree with ornaments, or a family with a little girl who doesn't have a lot of money. Weeks ago we started the conversations of "wants and needs" where we discussed what people and animals need to survive. Every year I organize (with the children's help) a giving tree to help out a family in need. Through Volunteers of America, I find a local family and adopt their wishlist. The family this year is a little girl, her mother, aunt, and grandmother.
This week we talked about the family and sorted the items on the wishlist by "wants" and "needs." Surprisingly there were mostly "needs" like soap, coats, clothing and cleaning products. If you would like to participate, grab an ornament! Once the items start rolling in, we look at them as a class and organize everything. I do this every year so many Branch Line families know about it.
We got through about half the Elephant and Piggie books this week. In doing so, we found a really funny video of Mo Willems making slop from his book I Really Like Slop! They wanted to watch the video about 17 times, but I limited it to twice. If they mention it to you, here's the link. Mo Willems is pretty silly! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8cYF_O9_hA
Our holiday party will be on the 23rd from 10-11am. I plan on having a few fun-filled stations like cookie decorating, crafts, and games. If you would like to donate an item or sign up to help run an activity, you can sign up below. I just asked for 5 volunteers, but I'm open to more if more people want to help. I didn't know what the interest would be. As always, thank you for your help!
