On Friday morning our caterpillars started hanging from the lid of their container. That means in a day or two they will turn into chrysalises. I will send caterpillar pictures and any major updates through Remind messages. If they somehow turn into butterflies while we are on break, I will keep them in their net until we meet again in May.
Weather, weather, weather. We're halfway through our unit-within-a-unit with our severe weather. The short storms this week set the scene for thunderstorm discussions. I think the fan favorite so far has been tornados. Although, when we come back we'll talk about hurricanes, so we'll see!
On Monday we got a chance to check on the killdeer. It was very cool to see how the killdeer tried to fool us by leading us away from its nest in the gravel and even faking being hurt so we could follow. It called its partner from far away too. So far the egg is safe, and I'm sure it will enjoy a peaceful spring break.
In Earth Day news, we talked about land pollution, composting, recycling, and how all of that affects nature. Did you know our school has a compost bin? We got a chance to see it, but carefully because it's right nest to the killdeer nest.
The Spring Fling is coming up on April 11th. Each class is putting together a basket and our class theme is S'MORES! I put together some ideas in a sign-up link. If you are able to, consider buying something off of the list to add to our basket! And don't forget to buy your tickets!
