Junior Explorers 9/15/2023

This week we started working with science tools.  We talk about the tools and discuss what scientists might use them for.  This week was focused on how to see the small things with magnifying glasses and a microscope.

In social studies we talked about laws.  Laws are like rules but for outside of your home or school.  They are rules adults need to follow.  At school when we break the rules we might need to take a break or talk to parents.  When someone breaks the law, it is a bigger consequence.  Don't worry, I'll be keeping a secret of which parents have gotten speeding tickets!  The kids really do like to share at meeting times...

I also started the official math program with almost everyone.  Each student has their own math book and we work together in small groups to make our way through the lessons.  Depending on how each group is doing we can skip around a bit or pause until the students are confident in that area.  There are chapter tests that we will complete every couple weeks or so and I'll send those home with notes so you can see their progress.  Otherwise we just keep everything here and work on it daily.

Things to talk about from the week:

  • Walking through the Labrynth
  • Fire drill at lunch!
  • Twinkle Twinkle, Hickory Dickory Dock, Diddle Diddle Dumpling, Little Bo Peep
  • Tornado drill
  • Calling sheep
